Angie and Donnie

I will be shooting Angie and Donnie's wedding on February 23, 2008. Here are a few images from their engagement session we did on a nice warm day last February!

I will also be shooting Amber and Dana's wedding on February 9th 2008. I didn't get to do an engagement session for Amber and Dana because they live in Arizona. I will post some images from their day after the wedding.

Let's hope for some decent weather on the 9th and 23rd!

The First Dance by Rick Jennisch

Here are few images of the bride and groom dance from recent weddings. The backlit bride and groom during the first dance is one of my signature shots. I shoot it at almost every wedding it is a client favorite. It's one of my favorites too!

The Story Behind the Image

I shot the image below at David and Laura's wedding on June 2nd, 2007. When you see this image, you might think it was enhanced in Photoshop to add framing, or maybe some digital template was added to the original photo. No! The original image was shot at The Butterworth Center in Moline, IL. I was doing some portraits of David and Laura and saw a trelise in the gardens. So I thought...why not shoot David and Laura through the trelise? And this was one of my favorites last year!

For those of you that are not familiar with the history of The Butterworth Center...it was the mansion owned by the John Deere family. I believe it was the home of one of his daughters that inherited his plow and tractor empire. It's a popular place for wedding, engagement, and senior portait photography in Moline.

Wedding Photography by Kristi Clark

I have put together two collages each of some of Kristi and Felicia's work as my second shooters. Kristi has been one of my second shooters for over two year. She has an eye for creative composition and personality well suited for wedding photography. My clients have consistently complimented Kristi's professional demeanor at the wedding, as well as the quality of her images.

More 2007 Urban Wedding Images

I found a few more weddings from 2007 where I had an opportunity to shoot in urban locations. Here are two more collages of some of my favorites!

2007 Urban Favorites

These recent posts with an urban theme I like to think of as "Outside the box." And the "box" is the church! I am going to post some of my favorite church images soon.

The trend in new church construction is bright and cheerful sanctuaries with a lot of windows and ambient light. And no stained glass! Older churches are dark with overbearing tungsten lighting systems, and very little natural light. I prefer diffused sunlight for portraits, but we use studio lighting too.

The past two years I have had more wedding ceremonies not held in a church. The ceremony and reception are held at the same location. That may be a current trend in the Quad Cities, but it has been common on the east and west coast for a long time. I have always heard the Quad Cities is five years behind national trends which always originate from the east or west coast, or I should say New York or California.

Some of the images in the urban collages were shot by Kristi and Felicia, but with the format I can't specify credit for their work. I am glad that I can always find some of their work from every wedding that deserves recognition!

Urban Wedding Photography in the Quad Cities with Rick Jennisch

In the off-season I like to look back at every wedding from the previous year. I critique my own work, look at what I did good, and what I could have done better at each wedding. I find it therapeutic as well as inspirational. As I was scrolling through the images I discovered a good theme for a collage: "My Favorite 2007 Urban Wedding Images!" I don't get the opportunity to shoot urban style images at every wedding; it just depends on the situation. What is an urban wedding shoot? An urban image is anything shot in an urban location! City streets, alleys, buildings, bridges, and locations outside the church or the park are typical urban locations.

But after I perpared these images for the web, I thought of several other collage possibilities: My favorite park, ceremony, reception, getting ready, and detail images are some that came to mind. Likewise, I would like a collage of my favorites from Kristi and Felicia!

I hope you enjoy my picks! And I do welcome your comments!

I still have a few more weddings to review and I will post some more urban shots later this week.

Mike and Michelle

I held a few weddings back this year just so I would have something to share in the off season! Mike and Michelle were married on October 22nd 2008. The reception was at The Abbey Hotel in Bettendorf; Staack Florist did the flowers; Le Cake did the Cake, and Black Tie Entertainment did the Music...I did the photography, and Ruby Media did the Video!

We had a great time with Mike and Michelle, their families, the wedding party and all the other vendors.

I know one thing for sure...an Irish - Itallian wedding is a lot of fun!

Congratulations Mike and Michelle. And thank you!

Felicia's Collage from Mike and Michelle's Wedding

Here is a sample of Felicia's work at Mike and Michelle's wedding. What can I say? I think they are great! And without Felicia there to capture these great images, how could I tell the story of the day? I couldn't!

Felicia graduated from The Ohio Institute of Photography, and she previously worked for two studios in Ohio before moving to the Quad City area. She and Kristi will soon be partnering with me to offer wedding photography packages on their own. We will have more information coming soon!

Dean and Sheryl at The Abbey Hotel on December 22, 2007

I did a short, hourly custom package for Dean and Sheryl on December 22, at the Abbey in Bettendorf, Iowa. The Ceremony was in The Chapel at The Abbey, and the reception was in the banquet room. Colman Florist did the flowers and Tim from Black Tie Entertainment provided the music. In 2007 I had many weddings at The Abbey Hotel and Abbey Station. Tim Heim and his staff give outstanding service to the guests, and the food is always second to none!

We were lucky to do a quick outdoor session at dusk outside The Abbey Hotel. All the outdoor images in this small collage were shot in the same sequence. I did some work in Photoshop to give each one a unique look. The "Gingerbread Abbey" was the creation of one of The Abbey's employees. I will have to get the name from Tim to give proper credit for the work. It is an amazing work of art!

Dean and Sheryl...thank you so much for having me photograph your wedding. I had fun working with everyone!

Josh and Janelle's Wedding in Davenport, Iowa

Josh and Janelle were married at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport, and the reception was at the Radisson Hotel in downtown Davenport, IA. West End Gardens did the beautiful flowers and floral arrangements; Janelle's dress came from The Bridal Room in Bettendorf; Luxury Limo provided the transportation; Froelich's did the cake, and The Funktastic Five provided the entertainment at the Radisson. It was a great lineup of vendors, and two great venues to shoot wedding photography! I love winter weddings! Especially when there is snow covered trees everywhere in the background for outdoor shots.

Congratulations Josh and Janelle...thank you for having Felicia and I shoot your wedding! We enjoyed woking with you.

Bride and Groom Portraits

One thing my clients can expect is a huge selection and variety of casual, relaxed, and fun portraits. My style is very informal, laidback, and non-traditional. All the images in this collage were shot inside and outside St. Paul's Church.

A Winter Wonderland Wedding!

I included an image in this collage of the new sanctuary at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Davenport. This was my first wedding there since the remodel was complete, and the sanctuary is beautiful. There are windows everywhere and an abundance of natural light for photography.

There was some great light when we left the ceremony as the sun was setting on the horizon. We stopped at the Sports Complex on Brady Street and the Bride, Groom and wedding party hit a few buckets of golf balls! It was fun.

Downtown Davenport with Josh and Janelle

When Josh and Janelle arrived at the Radisson, we took a walk around downtown Davenport for a quick session while the guests were enjoying the cocktail hour. The three of us went up to The Sky Bridge for a few shots and the lights were red and green! The red lights didn't do much for the skin tones, but they made an interesting background.

Wedding photography in the Quad Cities with Rick Jennisch

Fred and Erin were married on December 8, 2007 in Moline, Illinois. The ceremony was held at Riverside Methodist Church in Moline, and the reception at The University Club. Fred and Erin currently reside in Chicago. Thge reception was unique because there were two forms of entertainment. Fred plays drums in a band and they played the Bride and Groom and parent dances. Kurt from Master DJ also provided music and coordinated events at the reception.

Kristi was my second shooter and she did a great job as usual!

I love to shoot December weddings; they are always fun! I have three more weddings to post in the near future: Sheryl and Dean, Janelle and Josh, and Robin and Tim.

Thank you Fred and Erin for having us be a big part of your very special day.
